Ajmal Kasav, lone terrorist arrested for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks (File photo)

Amir Kasav, the father of Ajmal Amir Kasav, the lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks on Friday (December 12) broke down as he made the admission to the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’ that Kasav is his son.

"I was in denial for the first couple of days, saying to myself it could not have been my son. Now I have accepted it. This is the truth. I have seen the picture in the newspaper. This is my son Ajmal," Amir said in his first interview to the media since his son's arrest.

Talking to reporters in his Faridkot house, a village of about 2,500 people in Okara district of Punjab province, Amir said that his son disappeared from home four years ago. "He had asked me for new clothes on Eid that I couldn't provide him. He got angry and left," he said.

As Amir was talking to reporters, Kasav's two sisters and a younger brother stood by them. Their mother, wrapped in a 'chador', lay on a nearby charpoy. "Her trance was broken as the small picture of Ajmal lying in a Mumbai hospital was shown around. They appeared to have identified their son. The mother shrunk back in her chador but the father said he had no problem in talking about the subject," the newspaper reported.

Amir said he had settled in Faridkot after arriving from the nearby Haveli Lakha many years ago. He owned the house the family lived in and made a living by selling 'pakoras' in the streets of the village. He pointed to a hand-cart in one corner of the courtyard and said, "This is all I have. I shifted back to the village after doing the same job in Lahore. "My eldest son, Afzal, is also back after a stint in Lahore. He is out working in the fields."

Earlier, Britain's Observer newspaper and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) had earlier reported that Kasav belonged to Faridkot and had joined the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) some time ago. The Observer's correspondent had located Kasav's home and got hold of the voters' roll which had the names of his parents Amir and Noor as well as the numbers on their national identity cards. Reports had said that Kasav left home as a frustrated teenager about four years ago and went to Lahore in search of a job. After a brush with crime in that city, he reportedly joined the LeT.

Asked why he did not look for his son all this while, he said, "What could I do with the few resources that I had?" Though mild-mannered, Amir became agitated at the "mention of the link between his son's actions and money". Media reports had said that Kasav's handlers had promised him that his family would be compensated with Rs 150,000 after the completion of the Mumbai mission. "I don't sell my sons," Amir said.

Faridkot is located off a busy road and bears all the characteristics of a lower-middle class locality in a big city, the newspaper reported. Amir said he had little say in Kasav’s life since the day his son walked out on him. He calls the "people who snatched Ajmal from him his enemies but has no clue who these enemies are".

Islamabad: Even though the Pakistani government and terror groups Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawa may disown him, the father of the lone Pakistani terrorists arrested for the Mumbai terror attacks has admitted that the young man whose picture was beamed by media across the world, is his son.

Amir Kasab, the father of Ajmal Amir Iman alias Ajmal Kasab, broke down as he made the admission to the Dawn newspaper in the courtyard of his house in Faridkot, a village of about 2,500 people in Okara district of Punjab province.

"I was in denial for the first couple of days, saying to myself it could not have been my son... Now I have accepted it. This is the truth. I have seen the picture in the newspaper. This is my son Ajmal," Amir said in his first interview to the media since his son's arrest.

Britain's Observer newspaper and BBC had earlier reported that Iman belonged to Faridkot and had joined the Lashker-e-Toiba some time ago.

The Observer's correspondent had located Iman's home and got hold of the voters' roll which had the names of his parents Amir Kasab and Noor as well as the numbers on their national identity cards.

Reports had said that Kasab left home as a frustrated teenager about four years ago and went to Lahore in search of a job. After a brush with crime in that city, he reportedly joined the LeT.

Amir Kasab, a father of three sons and two daughters, said his son disappeared from home four years ago. "He had asked me for new clothes on Eid that I couldn't provide him. He got angry and left," he said.

As Amir was talking to the Dawn's correspondents, Iman's two sisters and a younger brother stood by. Their mother, wrapped in a chador, lay on a nearby charpoy.

"Her trance was broken as the small picture of Ajmal Kasab lying in a Mumbai hospital was shown around. They appeared to have identified their son. The mother shrunk back in her chador but the father said he had no problem in talking about the subject," the newspaper reported.

A debunking Message from Alert Press on this news:

About Kasav’s father: it is fake - just another weak attempt! Please follow the link below that is a report by The Guardian UK dated 2nd Dec. Mumbai Terrorist Name Fabricated

All of the sudden they have come up with his father - WOW :)
Also listen to this audio of Kasav ( interestingly the only terrorist who was voice tapped, whose photos available and was caught alive otherwise no clues about other super terrorists who bonked 2500 Indian troops for 60 hours)
Listen to this audio clip and decide yourself that if he a Pakistani or Indian.

Ten words says it all- 10 Words a Pakistani would never say:

One of the most interesting things about the Mumbai terrorist attack was that the terrorists called a TV station and talked to journalists and rambled on and on about their perceived grievances with the rest of the world.

And it was very much rambling on their part because half the stuff made no sense whatsoever.

In the aftermath of the attacks, with the Indian Government trying to put all the blame on Pakistan, it is interesting to listen to these audio recordings because even a cursory listening leaves one in no doubt that the person on the phone is NOT of Pakistani origin. Since the Indian Government at no point has denied that these calls were a hoax or were not from the terrorists we can assume for now that they were indeed originating from Nariman House and Mr. Imran (how unoriginal a name ! bet one of the other names that the Indian Government releases for the terrorists will be Javed, those two names have been staples of Indian nightmares for a few decades now ! ) was on the other side.

Among a lot of Hindi words that ‘Mr. Imran’ or Kasav for tat matter used, the following 10 are least likely to be used by a Pakistani, Punjabi or otherwise:

1. Julm — as an exasperated Javed Akhtar pointed out to someone on Indian Idol, don’t butcher the language, it is zulm not julm and no Pakistani would EVER say julm.
2. Jiadati — ditto - its ziadati
3. Jindagi — zindagi, you moron!
4. Naita — naita !! who would call a politician naita in Pakistan? Siyasatdan dude !
5. Itehas — err … history is tareekh for a Pakistani, not itehas no matter how many Bollywood films you’ve digested !
6. Shanti — aman, not Shanti ! Shanti for Pakistani’s means ‘ugly Indian woman’ !!
7. Parsaran — a word we used to make fun of while listening to Hindi commentators on TV…”match ka seedha parsaran” !! Definitely not in any Urdu dictionary.
8. Atank Waadi — what? if he’d called himself a ‘khalnayak’ too, it would have made my day !
9. Anayai — that’s un-ay-i. Don’t know what a Pakistani would say, ziadati I guess !! not in any Pakistani’s vocabulary anyway.
10. Paatshala —- no I’m not making that up. He actually called a school that !!
and I haven’t even mentioned the ’shuction’ (section) and ‘meray ko’ and ‘tumharay ko bol rahay hain na’ and ‘mudhbhir’ and a host of other very Indian vocabulary that this guy was using.

I think if the blame has to be put on Pakistan for any and every terrorist activity that happens in India they can at least do us the courtesy of teaching these people proper Urdu or at the least let Javed Akhtar make the phone calls in future !
