Resistance fighters fired three mortar rockets at Israeli troops in al-Shohada district on Thursday, Al-Aqsa TV station reported. There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
The Palestinian fighters also attacked eight Israeli military vehicles in Tal al-Islam, the Hamas-run television station added.
Earlier in the day, Palestinian fighters hit two Israeli tanks with RPG shells. Since yesterday 33 Israeli soldiers have reportedly been injured in the fighting.
On Thursday, Israeli tanks and troops advanced to within 2 km of Gaza City, where they met fierce Palestinian resistance.
The Palestinians, who have the upper hand in knowing the battleground, have prevented Israeli military troops and convoys from further advancement.
The resistance fighters reportedly use sophisticated underground tunnels to cut around Israeli troops, while Palestinian snipers target Israelis from unexpected vantage points.
Over 1,100 Palestinians -- many of whom were women and children -- have been killed and 4,700 have been wounded since Israel launched its offensive against the Palestinian territory on December 27.
Tel Aviv says it launched the aggression against Gaza to put an end to rocket attacks against southern Israeli towns.
Hamas, the democratically-elected ruler of the coastal sliver, demands a cessation of an 18-month Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip before its fighters suspend the rocket attacks.
