The Israeli offensive against Gaza has so far claimed the lives of at least 975 Palestinians and injured some 4,500 others. |
"We do not see it as appropriate to hold another summit," Ahmad al-Qattan, Saudi's permanent representative to the Cairo-based Arab League, told the pan-Arab al-Arabiya channel on Tuesday.
Doha called for an emergency Arab summit to be held on Friday to find solutions to bring peace to the Palestinian people.
Qattan insists, however, that a meeting of Arab foreign ministers should precede any meeting of Arab heads of state.
Egypt has also refused to attend the summit.
Earlier, both Egypt and Saudi Arabia announced their support for the proposed summit.
Lebanon, Syria, and Algeria have agreed to attend the summit.
Since Israel unleashed its air and sea campaign on December 27 against Gaza, at least 975 Palestinians have lost their lives and more than 4, 500 others -- most of whom are civilians -- have been injured.
