The situation in the Gaza Strip is highly critical
A Press TV correspondent on the ground in Gaza has described the humanitarian situation in the under-siege Palestinian territory.

Civilian Casualties

The Israeli aggression has so far left 1,340 Palestinians dead and more than 5320 others injured.

Children and women are the main victims of the war-shattered region. The Israeli military incursion into Gaza claimed the lives of 460 Palestinian children and 106 women.

Electricity, Food and Communication

The Israeli military operation has worsened the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza which has been under an 18-month Israeli blockade.

The situation is especially critical for those who are on life support. The electricity failure in hospitals has also made it difficult for patients and particularly for war victims.

About 40 women are currently staying in a room with insufficient food to survive as the shelters of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East have been destroyed.

Bakeries

Only a few bakeries are open in the entire Gaza Strip and hundreds of people could be seen queuing in front of the bakeries, the Press TV correspondent in Gaza reported.

Most bakers are closed because of the lack of flour and cooking gas due to the Israeli siege.

Medicine and Hospitals

The hospitals and other medical facilities suffer from severe shortages of medical supplies.

Many pregnant women deliver babies without medical intervention.

The aid which is entering the Gaza Strip is below minimum for survival.

The Gazans are donating blood to each other as the blood which was supposed to enter Gaza has been ruined.

According to Hamas, at least 5,000 houses were destroyed and some 20,000 others damaged during the 22-day Israeli incursion into the Gaza Strip.
